Recently I’ve had to make some changes in my WP subscriptions, and email preferences. I was receiving over 75 emails a day!! It was chaos! ( Not to mention, digital clutter.)
I couldn’t deal with it!!! ARGH!! So, I had to make some hard choices. If you’re one of the blogs that I quit receiving emails for, therefore I don’t read you every day, and comment, please forgive me. It wasn’t anything against you. Nothing personal at all!! Trust me, it was me, not you. Sorry I had to break up with you, but I have to get some sleep some time!
Let’s still be friends, okay?
Firstly, I really like the narrower header at the top of the page. Secondly, you need a feed reader, it will aggregate all of your blog feeds into one place for you that is separate to your emails. You will need to choose if you want them online or if you want to use an app if you prefer. http://sixrevisions.com/tools/free-rss-readers/ here’s a list of online ones you might like.

Thanks, Stella. I have a WP reader, I was just subscribing to emails, as I followed, so I had to figure that part out. Thanks so much for all the help!! You’re a great friend! So happy we met! Melinda

I did that a while ago and had 3 upset bloggers write to me. What could I do but re-follow them. Oh well 😦

Oh well, only 3? At least you didn’t have an angry mob after your head! 😉

Hi Melinda. For my “real” job, I have great time management skills. Unfortunately when it comes to keeping up with blogging and the blogs of others, I’m a disaster. Hugh (you’ll see a comment from him on some of my posts, and can get his link that way) did a post about this, which was highly praised. I’ve seen a few people say that they only comment once a week, per blog. Since so many of the people I follow are… prolific in posting (while I only post once a week for the most part) I thought that might be a reasonable, low guilt strategy for me. I’m TRYING to do that, but not succeeding yet. Have a wonderful weekend . Hugs.

Yeah, I read Hugh’s post. That’s what initially gave me permission to quit feeling like a failure! I was beating myself up for noting keeping up, and I was not sleeping properly. Once a week is a reasonable goal! Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment on me! I feel special! Talk to you soon, Melinda

I opened my email last night to 181 unread. Decided to do the same thing!

Good for you, Decluttering! Decluttering has to apply across the board to our life, or it gets to be too much. Melinda

I was having the same overwhelming experience and blogging was starting to wear me down. I now read posts through my reader and have forgiven myself in advance for missing a few. Blogging is fun again, and that’s the point, my dear. Smile.

YES! That!! It was wearing me out! ANd I was getting desperate, and losing sleep to try to “keep” up. And it was all manufactured pressure!
Thanks!

I don’t blame you, it’s a hard choice. Out of 480 blogs I supposedly follow, where maybe 300 are active every day, I had to limit daily emails to my favs. I just followed new people from blogging 201, so soon I will have to make decisions when to read theirs.

Thanks for the understanding. It seems everyone is struggling with this! I was following everyone who followed me, and it just wasn’t working. Some of them I didn’t even like their blog, after I read it a few times!

I find speed reading helps! Haha! I have a lot of the emails but I still try my best to read as much because I got a lot of inspiration from some of them. 🙂

Kally, definitely the speed reading! 😉

Oh my goodness! I have enough issues with digital clutter (over 1,000 unread messages) without the blog email. I actually read people’s blogs because I DON’T get them on email. When I open my WP Reader, it’s like opening up a good book of short stories…and I can read them all in order or skip around if I want 🙂

1,000???? I’m considering doing away with all blog emails too.

Hey it happens, don’t worry about it. I’ve blocked all emails from wordpress a while ago… you might want to change what kind of emails you receive from your social media accounts too. I no longer us emails as you can get all your notifications from each site when you visit. I don’t have time to go through hundreds of daily emails. Find what works for you. Hardly anyone knows the difference anyway. 🙂

Thanks so much, Kev. I appreciate the positive affirmation. Yeah, I’m thinking of cancelling all email notifications.

I have thought about the same. I use the WP Reader too. I just deleted around 9000 emails few days ago, but I do also follow many.

Yikers! That is quite a flood of emails! Bloglovin’ is a good one for combining updates into a single email… and people can follow your blog via bloglovin’ too. 🙂 Might be a good one to check out!
