My good friend Susie said that washing dishes was anathema to her. (Don’t you love that word??)
My immediate response was, “Don’t worry, they don’t like it either!”
So, then I started thinking, “Hey, I wonder what dishes DO think about it?”
Are they just chillaxin in old sweats? (Can we agree if mold’s growing on it, then it’s old?? and stinky like sweats?)
Then unceremoniously slammed into hot, soapy water, bubbles filling their noses, being boiled alive!! WHAT THE HECK????
“Hey, oh! Hey! I’m being scalded alive here!” I can just hear them shout, loudly!! I’m quite sure you could hear it too, if you attune your ears to their distress!
Sorry plates, and bowls, gotta do what a slob’s gotta do!! Maybe next time I won’t wait so long, and then it won’t be such a shock to your delicate ceramic!!
No dishwasher here, so my dishpan hands and I can certainly side with your friend Susie (and yes, I love that word!). I never thought about it from the point of view of the dishes.
Mine are currently drowning in a dishpan of what I am sure is now cold water – at least as cold as water can get on a night as warm as this one. And I think I am going to head to bed and leave them there ’til morning.
Anathema!

mgh

Woefully, I’ve come to realize that it won’t. Huge sigh

If the rest of the house would clean itself I wouldn’t complain about keeping the dishes washed – endlessly. Until then, I kvetch!

I suppose – but I hate eating off anything but china or pottery – and I despise plastic utensils (which I would also feel obliged to wash). I need to buy stock in hand cream!

They say Palmolive is good for your hands, if you can believe Madge!! (I know that’s a long ago ad, but perhaps you remember??)

REMEMBER? I actually *knew* Jan Minor. She was very intelligent, warm and witty – and an amazing serious actress who made QUITE a tidy sum being Madge.
I worked with her husband, Richard Merrell, when I was a NY actor (both gone now) – and they took the entire cast to Sardi’s for dinner and drinks, to wait for the reviews on opening nite! (favorable, btw – and I even got a nice little mention from Mel Gussow in the NY Times).

That’s ok. I didn’t even know her real name. She was great though!

You should have seen her in a dramatic role. She really WAS great!
The commercials made her wealthy – so they both could afford to do theatre (which doesn’t pay much, actually).

Madelyn,
Now I know why Lucy loves you so- you have a great sense of humor. Yes dish washing and me don’t agree all the time. We have our time outs.

Lucy is a hoot – and one of my favorite bloggers. I am psyched that the next in the Porter Girl series is on its way!
LOL – I’m stealing your line: putting the dishes in time out! 🙂 (beats “watery grave” which some people may claim is more apt!

I was assuming you meant Lucy Brazier, who began online with The Secret Diary Of PorterGirl (Portergirl dot com) – which led to a 3-book contract to extend the online book to a hardcover series. We interact often and greatly enjoy each others’ work (and comments!).
Were you speaking of a different Lucy?

Yeah, I don’t know that one. Now I gotta go back and see what I said! haha Senior moment! One of my bloggy friends, Claremary Sweeney started calling herself Ethel, to my Lucy. Then Susie picked it up too.

Oh your poor dishes! I feel for them. However, we knew someone who never washed his car. When the car got so dirty that he couldn’t find a door handle, he just bought a new one. Is that an idea?

What if it’s just the opposite? The dirty dishes are crying! When they hit that hot, soapy water, it’s like you and me settling into a hot tub. “Aaaaaahhhhhh, it’s about time, you slob! “
