Venerable Veterans

To all who served, and are serving, in the military: THANK YOU!!   I’m proud to support our troops!  Proud to be an American!!

proud to be American

(I inserted my shadow so you’d know WHO is proud!  All 3 flag, and America pix are mine, from my home.  I can’t claim the pumpkin.  I found it on Facebook.)

We appreciate your sacrifices, protecting not only our country, but democracy around the world.

To veterans, I will add policemen, firemen, EMTs, Paramedics, and First Responders.  Thank you for your sacrifices to keep us safe.

Charity Chair

I have a gorgeous dining room set.  (Well, it will be once it’s all purple instead of green!)  I love the curves of the legs, and the airiness of the glass top.

dinette chairs(Please ignore all the clutter on the table, it was invisible to me until now.  Just play along, and no one gets hurt, capese?)

But I had a serious problem occur.  One of the chairs broke a leg.  How it did this, when I didn’t even know it went out running, I’ll never know.  Nevertheless, here it is, in it’s sad state.

broken chair leg

Poor thing, needs a cast.

broken dinette chair leg

So very tragic.

I wanted to put it out of its misery, like a horse, but how do you kill a chair??  So, I put it out by the road.  Fortunately, my SIL saw it, and questioned me.  He whisked it away in his ambulance van, and returned it to me the next morning, with its leg whole!  Miraculously, he knew a chair leg doctor that worked for thank yous from a sweet, blonde, (PP) baby.  Welded it up, and good to go!

Thank you SIL!!!!

welded chair leg

Better than new. I DARE it to break now!

Now, it’s on restriction, and forbidden to go out running ever again.  Next time, I’ll tie its feet together.

Brother’s Brave Bites

May 2, 2015.  A day that shall live on in our memories.

For the first time in my whole life!! I cooked an entire (3 item) meal from scratch, with no gluten or sugar!!

20150502_184737(Why am I always wearing pink shirts??  Do I only photograph myself on laundry days???)

20150502_172210Buttered Broccoli Slaw (a little variance there, was supposed to be coleslaw, but I know Brother likes Broccoli, so I got that instead.  Good call!)

20150502_173204Brussels Sprouts Au Gratin.  Oh, so good!!! I will definitely make this again! and again, and again…..

My Brother and 1 other guest were brave enough to be the guinea pigs.

And they complimented me!

I was planning to make a GF cheesecake too, but I was too exhausted.  My mistake was in telling the guys my planned menu!  I caught a little lot of flak for not having the dessert made! lol  They love me anyway!

So, when I do bake 1, I’ll have to make 3!  One for each of us!  Because I doubt I’ll want to share!!

And oh yeah, they’re doing the dishes!

I’m so full and happy right now.  Bonus: nobody needed an ambulance!!

Sewing So Steadily

How do ya like that alliteration? Pretty good, right?

I have been chained to my sewing machine since last weekend, because I finally felt well enough to start the 2 projects which were urgent; a baby quilt that was 2 months late for the shower, (and the baby is already 3 weeks old!), and PP’s Thanksgiving dress. (YES, I KNOW it’s only 1 week from today! Thanx! Hence, the URGENCY!)

Thankfully, I have an in with the slavedriver boss, and I’m able to have breaks for food, water, and the necessaries.

Here is the baby quilt, modeled by non other than the famous (in her own mind) designer herself.

Please ignore all clutter in background. Creative genius at work.

Picture of PP’s dress might be harder to come by, since no smartphone or camera is in residence now.  Perhaps I can troll the neighborhood for an IPhone owner, and beg for 1 pic.  Mmmmm, might not be the best idea.

Here it is in all it’s glory:

Here I am showing off my latest creation

( Thanks, sis, for coming to my aid, with your smartphone!)

It’s so pretty, right?? RIGHT?? If you don’t agree, you lose your reader privileges for a week.  Go to your room.

The bodice fabric has cartoon turkeys on it and says “Gobble till you Wobble”, and “I’m stuffed”. How could I resist it?

The skirt , and sleeves are Indian corn, so adorable.  I know, I keep bragging on myself.  Well, I just broke my arm patting myself on the back, so I’m having to type one handed while I wait for the ambulance.  That’ll teach me.

(Why didn’t you come outta your room and help me??)

Whew! Now that I’ve wrapped up those 2 projects, and mailed the dress, I think I’ll take a break for a day or two and rest!

Let’s All Hit the Floor

Well, my plans changed rapidly Thursday night.  One minute I was in the shower, getting ready to go meet a girlfriend for a long awaited GNO, and the next, I was on the floor crying.

dorian 008

Yup, hit the floor, just that quick.  Yelling, crying, moaning, I was doing it all.

Hurting, and feeling like a dummy.  How many 53 yo women can get out of the shower all by themselves, without falling down?? Apparently, all of them but me.

Then, DH and DD1 were there, asking  me questions.

Purpleslob and husband

(Yes, my real husband. No, he wasn’t smiling during the event itself.)

Can you get up?  Ummm, that would be negatory.  Are you conscious?  I’m conscious of how stupid I am, so yeah.

Then, 911.  8 paramedics, EMTs, and firemen.  (No, not 8 of each, 8 altogether.)

emts helping someone

I know, quite a lovely butt shot.

All trying to figure out how to pick me up when my body was in the tiny bathroom, and my head was in the bedroom.  Once they moved the bed, they worked it out.  Back board, head brace, and me in all my glory.  Did I mention there were 8 men????  Thankfully, DD1 brought a sheet, so they covered me before taking me out the door.  Thank God for small favors!!

Made them stop so I could tell PP bye.  She was so worried, bless her heart.

Ambulance, about 90 speed bumps, it seemed.  ER. Finally a pain pill!!

Xrays, CT scans, another pain pill.

xrays of hands

Yes, they xrayed more than just my hands!

Nothing broken??  Are you sure, Doctor?? Cause I feel like I’m dying.

Gave me a script for pain pills, recommended ice, and Ibuprofen.  Put me in a wheelchair and sent me home.

Obviously, not me, since I don’t have black hair.   😉

When I got home, had to use my own walker from car to apartment.  Good thing I kept it.

Never did make it to GNO.

Next time I take a shower, maybe I need to be hooked up to a safety line.
