Sewing Sew Sew

What have I gotten myself into now??  I just finished the nieces baby quilt last, last, last Thursday (3 ago).  Now here I am starting ANOTHER quilt??  (For my Sister-in-law, Shirley- ya know, the one I promised Brother last January???)  Am I crazy??  (Well, that’s already well established, no need to answer!)

AND!!!!  I’m planning to do a Thanksgiving dress for PP!!!!!   I AM INSANE!!!

Just purchased the Thanksgiving material, (and Christmas too, if I MUST confess) for PP, on Veteran’s Day.

It was on sale!!  60% off the harvest, and 50% off Christmas!!  With a 40% off coupon!!!  I HAD to buy it!! Right then!!

(Even though I had to borrow the money, totally worth it!! to me, anyway!!)

I’m gonna be busier than “2 squirrels in a wool sock”!  (Thanks, Cindy D. for that saying!)

Shirley did come over and cut up all the squares, which I can’t do.  (Remember that pesky little wreck, back in February??

Boy, I do.  Every time I try to use my left arm!)

Here they are, in all their freshly cut glory:

Gorgeous colors!  Brother picked them out, and he’s color blind!  Kudos to him!

Here is the material for PP’s Thanksgiving dress.  I just love these turkeys!!  Who could resist such cuteness??

cartoon turkey material

And I’m going to!

And ta-da!  Behold the Christmas dress raw materials.  PP picked these out herself!!  What an eye!

Oops!  I forgot to take that pic, again!  Bad slogger, bad slogger!   Meantime, please enjoy this lovely

Pic of Jackie and JFK, in their Christmas outfits.   Off to take that pesky pic!   (Unless I forget again….)

Okay, so now I gotta chain myself to the machine again!  Hope I get let off for Thanksgiving dinner!  (Well, that will probably depend on how fast I get the turkey dress done!!)  If you don’t hear from me in about a week, please send food and water!!

Finally Fini

The amazing, long anticipated quilt:

Already rounded 3rd, almost home!

IS DONE!!!  (cue music: dun, dun, DUN)

scream of excitement

Can you hear the scream of excitement???

Final proof of fini!

YAY!!!  It’s only Thursday night, and I’m DONE!!   {Slaps the chess timer like a Grand Champion!}  Woo hoo for me!  On budget, (only because Sheryl bought everything and gave it to me, but whatever), and before deadline!  That part’s all ME!!

I must say: it’s the very first quilt I’ve ever made that I pieced both back, and front.  Very unusual, but twice as nice!

front of quilt

Remember the front?

back of quilt

And the back of quilt?

I will never forget them, myself!  Once I invest blood, sweat and tears into a quilt, it’s part of me for life!

[Well, not real blood, not this time.   I have sewed my finger with the machine needle before.   How ever did my fat finger fit under there, when I have a hard time fitting 2 layers of material, with batting?????]

manhandling the many material layers but, you can’t see my hands, cuz I’m holding the camera, then pushing the button!  A very delicate operation there!

Quickly Quietly Quilting

Update:  This is what the baby quilt looked like Monday evening at 9:38 pm.  (That’s when my bobbin ran out.  My arms were already yelling “Uncle”!!)  The top 4 rows are completed, and was attaching the fifth…

This is definitely a challenge: racing against the clock!!

baby quilt in progress

Starting to actually look like a quilt!

Uh, please overlook the mess in the background, as usual, I didn’t see it till now.  Don’t worry, fans, plenty of slobbery to go around!  The fount of post material is not in any danger of running dry!!

Just in case you have forgotten, or don’t know, this is the bobbin:

So, back to the sweatshop, uh, I mean the air conditioned factory of joy!!

Ripe Recipe

9/17/2015

I had a wild hair today.   It was so annoying.   Don’t worry, it’s gone.

This is a #3 guard, on the clippers. Too long?

Artistic, no?

side buzz cut

Pretty short, huh? Cool!!!

My Mama almost had a fit when she saw me. She thinks it’s a catastrophe.  I knew she would.  And it’s not that I don’t care, or want to upset her.

It’s just that I’m trying to survive the  oven Florida climate!  Remember this?  Icy Exterior.  103 degrees in the shade, ain’t no joke!  Add to that, I’m still fat fluffy, and NO AIR in my car!!  And there you have a recipe for heat stroke!

Skunk head- just for LBeth!

Here is your special order, ma’am, hot off the press!

I was helping my aunts paint my grandmama’s house, the same one I was sitting on the porch, after Grandma had passed.  Unfortunately, no one in the family could buy it, so it was going on the market.  😦

So, here we were, painting the ceiling of the dining room, do ya feel where this is going???

We are all laughing, then crying, talking about Grandma, and memories we had in the house.  So, after a too long crying jag, I painted someone’s shirt back, just to get a laugh.  Then, it was all out paint war!

Before long, we all had paint smeared hither to yon.  I already had flecks in my hair, so I painted the stripe down the top, and said, “Hey, y’all!  Remember when Sherry skunked me??”

They all stared at me horrified!!  “Melinda!!  That is oil paint!  You’re gonna have to use paint thinner to get that out!!”

“Yeah, but do ya remember when Sherry put that streak of white down my hair, by using all the bleach on me, cuz I was too impatient to wait for her to do it right??  Blast from the past, baby!

And, just like 35-ish years previously, it had to grow out.  But!  This time Mama couldn’t yell at me for ruining my hair!  HA!

I love my adventure filled life!

Gail, from SnapshotsinCursive, is a wonderful lady.  She cooks up such yummy recipes, I nearly drown my computer, with drool, everytime I log onto her site!  And her photography is simply stunning.  And she does it herself!  (Check out her link above, to see what I mean.  Put a napkin under your chin first!)

Gail has been such an encouragement to me.  She reaches out, likes my stuff, and comments on my posts.  And she shares knowledge with me.  She has definitely helped me improve as a blogger.  (For instance, she let me copy these theatre masks from her post!)

Thank you so much, Gail for being so special, and such an encourager.

Pudding Pop’s Playful Pastimes

PP loves to come to my house.  Whenever I visit her, she asks, “Howzz, howzz?”   (And who can blame her??? I’m an awesome Omie!!!  If I do say so myself, who shouldn’t!!)

And, I love to have her!

One of her favorite activities:

Playing with rocks!  When DD1 told me that, I couldn’t believe it!  But it’s true!

Picking them out of the garden, throwing them,

Her favorite toys

hiding them,

The Hidey Hole

Sleeping (!!!) with her pet rock!  No pix of this, because she was in the bed with me, as I was trying my best to sleep too!  In a twin bed!!  But here’s the rock.  At least it is smooth, and no one ended up with a goose egg!  Yay!

Night-night lovey

More of her favorites: Taking a bath.  A daily must do!!

Enjoying herself at children’s Museum.

Picking perfect periwinkle posies.

And last but not least:

Eating is an all time favorite!

No pix of that either, since it would require showing her face.  DD1 nixes that for security reasons.  I certainly understand after hearing some horror stories.

Hope you enjoyed seeing how my precious plays!

[Freecycle-LakelandFL] WANTED: fabric, fabric, sewing notions & yarn (Lakeland Florida )‏

Freecycle.org
WANTED: fabric, fabric, sewing notions & yarn

Would like any of your stock pile of old, ugly prints. Trying to make
variety of things. Dolls, guilts, throw pillows etc

Tiny prick of conscience. I have more than I’ll ever need.

Stupid minimalist and cleaning blogs. Making me feel guilty.

I’m not a hoarder, I’m a seamstress!   I just have a sorta huge stash.

My Fabric Stash

My Fabric Stash

Oh, alright!  I contacted the person, okay?

Now I need to sort, and purge what I’m willing to give up.

Do you see my nail marks, where I’m holding on for dear life??

Keeping a tight grip

Keeping a tight grip

Somethings are easier to get rid of than others.

Fabric is just so full of possibilities!  I can make it into any thing I want!  I can be artistic!  It’s one of my treasures!

But, if it sits there until doomsday, what have I really accomplished?  So, gonna give it up…

Not all of it, of course.  You think I turned “cleanie” over night?  Au contrair mon cherie!  {If I didn’t spell that right, sorry!  I left my French dictionary at the store.}

Will proceed to sorting…..

Update:  Patience came and I let go of A LOT of stuff.  She was such a sweet lady, I kept handing her more and more!  And after she left, I didn’t regret a thing!  (Except not getting a pic of all the material going out the door.)

Que sera, sera.

Refridge Refresh

(Will I ever run out of alliterative post titles? Sure hope not!)

Here is my refridge, before the Great Purge of ’15.

20150415_182102And the door20150415_182054

The carrots, and almond milk are good, the water, and the eggs.  Everything else, out the door.  See those containers?  Well, I’m not really sure what’s in them, but they’ve been there for months.  My friend Sheryl, wouldn’t even touch them this time, I imagine!

3 shelves and 2 bins full of food, only half of it permissable.  And half of it, (the containers)  a scary science experiment.  Hopefully you didn’t notice how I artistically placed the pickles over a mess.  No? Whew!  Yes??

Turn away, turn away.

Everything in the door had to go, except the lemon juice.  Thankfully, I was able to pack it all up and donate it to File 13.

Here’s the afters of the freezer, and the door.

20150415_18202020150415_182011 Yes, I realize I need to clean after I purge, but hey, I’m not expecting any refridge and freezer inspectors for at least another 3 months.  Maybe I’ll get a round tuit before then.

Pitiful, isn’t it?  I tell ya, I’m gonna starve!  Anybody remember me mentioning I don’t cook???  Yeah….  Wonder how that’s gonna work out for me….
