So So Sorry

Recently I’ve had to make some changes in my WP subscriptions, and email preferences.   I was receiving over 75 emails a day!!  It was chaos! ( Not to mention, digital clutter.)

email angel

I couldn’t deal with it!!!  ARGH!!  So, I had to make some hard choices.  If you’re one of the blogs that I quit receiving emails for, therefore I don’t read you every day, and comment, please forgive me.  It wasn’t anything against you.  Nothing personal at all!!  Trust me, it was me, not you.  Sorry I had to break up with you, but I have to get some sleep some time!

Brotherhood of the World

Lady Sunshine nominated me for a Brotherhood of the World Award.   Thank you, Lady Sunshine!!

brotherhood

Here are the rules:
Thank and link back to the person who nominated you for the award.
List the Rules and Display the Brotherhood of the world Award logo to your post and/or blog.
Answer the questions set to you.
Nominate around ten bloggers.
Create your set of questions for your nominees.

Lady Sunshine’s questions for me :

1. What are your nicknames? What do you prefer to be called?

I’ve had several nicknames throughout my life.  One was Mel, when I was going thru my rebellious, “I hate my name” stage.  Then in 8th grade, I named myself Mindy.  Now of course, I’m “Purple Slob”.

2. What books on your shelf are begging to be read?

My Bible.  I try to always read it every day.  I say try.  And, I have a book, “Season of Angels” , Debbie Macomber that I’m wanting to read.

3.What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? Do you count sheep? Toss and Turn? Try to get up and do something productive?

Sometimes I get up and read, or get on FB.  Sometimes I eat!  Bad me, bad me!

⁴. How many days could you last in solitary confinement? How would you do it?

I think I could last awhile, if I had books, and paper and pen.  Maybe some crayons, and coloring book.   But, they are gonna feed me, right???
5. When making an entrance in to a party, do you make your presence known? Do you slip in and look for someone you know? Do you sneak in quietly and find a safe spot to roost?

Oh, I definitely make my presence known!  I am a big time par-tay girl!  Love to be the center of attention!!
6. What is your strongest sense? If you had to give one up, which would it be?

I think seeing would be my strongest, even though I need glasses now! lol  Hmmmm, if I had to give one up??

I guess I’d choose smelling to let go of.  I would never want to be blind, or deaf, or unable to feel.

Now, I get to ask the questions.  Sunshine gave me such thought provoking ones, I need to dig deep to come up with some great ones, too!

My questions for y’all:

  1. Boxers or briefs?  Not really, I just couldn’t resist.  DO NOT ANSWER THIS!!
  2. Which is more important to you in a relationship, looks or personality?
  3. How did you decide to start blogging?
  4. What is your definition of Brotherhood?
  5. How do you define happiness?
  6. Are you a slob, or a cleanie?
  7. What was the name of your first childhood pet, and what was it?
  8. Who is your favorite relative?
  9. And why?

Love/Hate Challenge

Beautiful Himali, from decodinghappyness has nominated me for a challenge.

                                      Love – Hate !

Read here: love-hate

  • List 10 things that you love.
  • List 10 things that you hate.
  • Nominate fellow bloggers to take the challenge.

love-over-hate1

So, here goes:

LOVES:

  1.  Jesus/God/Holy Spirit  (They’re the same, 3 persons in 1 Godhead.)
  2. My husband, DH
  3. My 2 daughters, DD1, DD2
  4. My grand baby, Pudding Pop
  5. Mamafirst established
  6. My family; nuclear, first established , this established, and extended
  7. PURPLE!!!  (Y’all knew that one was coming, right??)
  8. Losing weight
  9. The Bible
  10. Blogging, my new addiction

Hates:  Hmmmm, this is harder.

  1.  Bad grammar, especially in a love letter.  In 8th grade, I red-lined all my boyfriend’s love letters, and sent them back for editing!  Yes, I really did!  The gall!
  2. Long hair, on me.  I whack it off every chance I get.  When my girls were in Elementary school, I even shaved my head, much to their chagrin, and Mama’s horror!
  3. Shaving my legs.  Enough said.
  4. Abortion.  This is serious, I just couldn’t be all funny, without speaking up for the unborn.  They are precious little lives, no matter what stage of gestation.
  5. Frustation!  I’m not the most techie person in the world, so I get upset when I can’t just do what I want to do!  Why don’t I have a computer I can just speak to, and it instantly does my bidding????  WHY????
  6. Not having a sarcasm font.  I’ve asked for it enough times.  Someone should have invented this already!!
  7. Green. Yuck!
  8. Sushi.  Just the thought of it makes me queasy.  Believe me, I’ve eaten my share of stuff, so let me slide, okay?  Thanks!
  9. Running out of ice… and since I live alone, this would be the fault of ?????
  10. When I don’t get a nap.  So does everyone around me hate when this happens!!  (Can you say Grumpy?  I thought you could.)

Okay, so there’s that, then.  Onto the nominations.  And the awards go to:

Dishes, Dishes, Dreaded Ding Dong Dishes

Man, you think I’d be done writing about dishes!  Ah so, ah no!

This past weekend, I had PP.   I love having her so much!

But: she wears me out!  I tend to her, and (maybe) get a bath too, but that’s it!  No cleaning, dishes or laundry on her watch! lol

So, when she left Sunday night, and there was a full sink of dishes, did I jump in there like a good lil housekeeper, and do ’em all up?

me sleep 154

Yeah, right!  If you’ve been here very long, you know the answer is a resounding NO!

Anyway, there sat the pitiful, but still pretty!, dang dirty dishes.

BUT!  to rejuvenate, first I had to sleep 12 hours.  Yes, I sleep 12 hours, and your point?

When I came into the kitchen to find food,  there they were, staring at me, mocking me:  “Purple Slob in Recovery, huh?  Recover this!”

me sleep 154

Ooooohhh, I despised them at that moment.

So, I did what any good slob would do, I ignored them, and ate my breakfast.  (A non-dish-requiring breakfast of fresh blueberries, outta the container, and a cheese stick.)

no dishes needed

no dishes needed

20150814_161258

Then, s l o w l y, I dragged myself back into the kitchen, and confronted them.

“You’re going down, today, Sassy Pants!”

sassy

So I organized them, dumped the contents, re-arranged them, alphabetized them…..

And after starting to think I might actually have to DO them, I caught myself.  Wait!  I’m a slogger!! (slob-blogger for you new followers.)  I HAVE to take pix for the blog!!

So, I stretched that out as long as I could….

Here they are stacked nicely

Here they are stacked nicely, sorta….

Okay, fine!  I’ll do the dishes!  But only so they can’t mock me anymore!

Strawberry Startings

If you missed any of the story: go here:

Part 1, Strawberry City, part 2, Man Giant, part 3, Strawberry Banquet, part 4, Strawberry Love, part 5, Strawberry Slush, part 6, Strawberry Sickness, part 7 Strawberry Daiquiri, part 8, Strawberry School, part 9, Strawberry Struggles, part 10, Strawberry Sessions.

a blog.  What would she talk about?  Well, her house was a mess, and clutter had followed her to this place.

She hadn’t thought too much about messes, and clutter, what with all the excitement of Strawberry Grandbaby

Emilia_037being born.  Then the hospital, rehab, and therapy.

But, once she started thinking about it, that’s ALL Strawberry Girl could think about.

She was sick and tired of messes , and clutter.  Ranch Man was working hard, but all he could do is keep up with day to day stuff, feeding and caring for an invalid, semi-invalid, and a baby.

So, Strawberry Girl made up her mind to clean up her own messes, and clutter, and document the process.

She found other blogs that inspired her, so she began.

At first, all she could do is sweep under the high chair.

Broom_(PSF)

Then, she would sit down exhausted.  Of course, her fingers weren’t tired!  Just her back, and legs, and arms, so she could write her blog posts.

Gnome-system

And so she wrote, and wrote, and wrote.

To Be Continued….

(After a week’s break. Sorry, Laura!  Hang in there!)

Janice’s Jottings

Or, Re-blog, Rinse, Repeat.

Janice Wald from mostlyblogging  didn’t re-blog me, but she talked a LOT about me in this post:

/how-to-increase-traffic-with-a-blog-brand/  !!!  When I read it, I was blown away!!

She has a HUGE following!  So for her to say I’m doing something right is an invaluable compliment!

Here are excerpts:

Examples of Blog Brands

Melinda Mitchell has a self-deprecating online presence.  Her persona is funny, creative, and highly critical of herself.  She calls her blog Purple Slob in Recovery, and that is her online presence–she is a purple slob.  Bear in mind I am not calling Melinda a slob.  This is her online name for herself.
Her self-deprecating persona continues into her posts.  A typical post, Library Loser, explains how she loses library books.
Her avatar is that of a woman wearing purple looking distressed.  She carries this “purple” theme across her social media.  Her Facebook name is Purplelinda.
Another creative maneuver that makes Melinda a stand-out blogger is her use of alliteration in her headlines.  Dying Dishes is another one of her posts detailing the filth that covers her dishes.  The post asks where dishes that dirty go to die.

The Value of a Blog Brand

Melinda’s is funny.
I did not have to research to find these bloggers when discussing them in my post.  I was able to discuss them because I remembered them.  I remembered them because they have creative blog brands.

Can you see why Janice Wald is my new Blog BFF??

Under Cover, Under Counter

This looks bad, I know.

Right side

Right side

Left side

Left side

This is another one of those cases where you just need to be grateful we don’t have smell-o-vision.

Yeah, it kinda… um, how can I put this delicately… stinks.  Like mildew.

Now, I wasn’t aware that the sink leaked.  Until the day when I needed a cleaning wipe.  Yeah, remember that 1 day when I actually cleaned the sink???

I reached under there, and that whole towel was wet.  Nasty surprise!  But did I do anything about it?  Like remove it?  Throw it away?? C’mon, you know me better than that by now!!  (For those of you who are new, I’m lazy, and a slob– SHOCKER- right?  And a big time procrastinator.  That’s all, back to your regularly scheduled post.)

Sadly, that wet towel is still there, stinking, to this day. sniff, sniff  (It’s my allergies, I’m not crying over spilled milk, or whatever the heck that liquid is.  Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.)

Well, I found out it was only water, (YAY) and not from the sink (double yay!).  Did you see the plastic jugs to the left of the pipe?  Turns out there were 3 of ’em full of water, for our emergency stash.  Until suddenly, no water at all!  Not sure what happened, but there’s holes in them now.  At least now I won’t be afraid to take up the towel, YAY!  Maybe I’ll even do it now!  {Here’s hoping!}

You’ll be happy to know, the under counter was cleaned by the time I moved out, on June 30, 2015.  Yay, me!  (Or whomever cleaned it, who may or may not have been me.  Hint: It wasn’t me.)

(I’m so frustrated with myself right now.  I took a picture of the cleaned space.  But now I can’t find it.  (Typical slob prob.  Maybe I need to… organize (GASP!) the way I do my pix?)

Melinda’s Memoir

Nony

6/26/15
To: purple.librarian@hotmail.com
My email icon.  I hope those ladies don’t mind being on the web!

Hello  6/26/15  Just reread this today.;

melindasays:

I have purged today! 2 drawers full of stationery, 90% of which is being donated. The chest the drawers came out of has to be thrown away due to water damage. Then I purged 7 gallons of trash from a large moving box,(7 GALLONS!!!) and condensed down to a small diaper box! Feeling so good right now! Waiting for my husband to come back from the store, so he can bring me another box. Here’s hoping I can stay on this high for awhile!! Thank you, Nony!

I e-mailed this to myself, because I was re-reading the post of Nony’s and saw my comment from last year.

This was 15 days before I started my own blog.

It was so neat to catch a glimpse of my former self on her blog!

I can’t link to the specific post, because I didn’t save it, of course!  But here is her site.

http://www.aslobcomesclean.com/

Nony started out blogging anonymously, hence “Nony”, because she was so embarrassed.

Not so me, everyone who ever knew me, knew I was a slob.  I couldn’t go incognito if I wanted to!

Insert any one of a thousand pix here, as proof.

But, thank God, I’m on my way to recovery, and soon, I won’t be a slob anymore!  Then I’ll have to rename my blog, ” Purple Slob Recovered.”  Oh!  Won’t that be the day!!
