This is something new, and I’m happy to participate!!      You know I love books!!

Book Memes      Library       Loser          Paperbacks       Bibles

Convinced yet that I love books??

Okay now, on to the questions, please.           Coming right up!

  1.  WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE BOOK PET PEEVES?    (The emphasis was theirs, not mine.      Since they were shouting, I don’t think it needs bold too.)

Um, let’s see….. 1. When the ending pages are torn out!!!!      That makes me cry in anger, and frustration!        2. If the book is poorly edited.     Once, the heroine’s name changed halfway thru.      This really happened!       I got all steamed up, ready to write a stern letter to the editor, then…… I read a different book, and my procrastination kicked in, and I never did it.    3. When the writer is boring.    I still try to hang in there, but 3 times in my life, I’ve given up, and quit reading a book.      It pains me, cuz I know it’s not the book’s fault!      But, I do have standards, ya know!!

2. Describe your perfect reading spot.

Pretty much anywhere there’s a seat, light, me and a book!!    Actually, I don’t even require a seat!     I read while walking down the halls, at school!            I’ve even read in the tub!!

3. Tell us Three book confessions.

I think saying I have put down 3 books, without finishing, probably counts as the first one!     I’m ashamed of myself, that I couldn’t power thru!       2. I proofread, as I go.     I hate it when books have too many mistakes.       Fire your editor already!!       3. I binge read, when I find a new author I like.     I will hunt down their next books, like they are food, and I’m starving!

4. When was the last time you cried during a book?

When did I finish reading the last book??    2 days ago?     Of course I cry when something sad happens!       Those people are real!!      DD1 does too.      When either of us are crying, and we ask, “What’s wrong?”  All the other has to do, is say “Reading, or book.”        And we understand.

5. How many books are on your bedside table?

Here: I’ll show you.

Answer: 10.    2 Bibles, 2 Christian romances, a Strong Willed Child workbook, and 5 kids’ books.

6. What’s your favorite snack to eat while you’re reading?

Food, pretty much!     Brownies top the list, naturally.       And peach Fanta, if I have some.

7. Name Three books you would recommend to Everyone.

Bible- #1, hands down.        Anne of Green Gables.       {This is so hard!!}        5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman.

8.  Show us a picture of your favorite bookcase , or a bookshelf.

Well, since I moved, and got rid of all my bookcases, apparently my nightstand is it!

slob, humor, books on nightstand

My nightstand is now my new bookshelf.

9. Describe how much books mean to you in just three words.

Oh, wow, another toughie.       Let’s see if I can do this.

Giving me life.       (The Bible literally gives me life, by bringing me to Jesus Christ.     Other books give life to my mind.)

Now another rough part: Nominating just 5 people!!

  1. Susie        A wonderful friend!
  2. Geekmama
  3. Creative Crafts
  4. Beauty Beyond Bones    This girl is seriously wonderful!
  5. Koolaid Mama

As soon as this publishes, I’ll be round to all your blogs, bringing you the good news!

Thanks again, Favorite!     Go check out this Chocolate Cake recipe of hers!!

Declutterathon Dish Deposit

slob, humor, declutterathon

Well, I was sitting in my recliner, surveying my kingdom living room, and enjoying the view.     The nice, uncluttered, clean deceptively clean looking, view.      And, I was thinking of what my next Declutterathon project could possibly be; since my whole house was pretty much decluttered down to the bone!

AHA!!       Or so you thought!!         Yes, or so I thought!       Until my roving eyes landed on this.     slob, humor, corner hutch

Oh yeah, the corner hutch/ china cabinet/dish deposit place.       (At least, that’s what Granny always used it for; me?     This and that, some of whatever thrown in for good measure.)

I thought it looked like some books on the top shelf, but I wasn’t positively sure, so I ventured closer.    slob, humor, corner hutch- clutter?     Sure enough!     Books!!       Lots of books!!

slob, humor, books!     12 to be exact!      How did I not go thru these already when I went thru books last time??        Got me!        Anyway, the cookbook is a no-brainer donate!   Then the 8 romances went straight into the trash.     I still can’t understand how they’ve been here in my house the last 11 months, when I’ve been purging so much!!

slob, humor, clutter        And the 3 keepers.     slob, humor, not clutter

Grace Livingston Hill romances are so sweet, old fashioned, and Christian.      She includes the plan of salvation in each one.      Remember when I agonized so over my 3 boxes of Graces????      Some that I’d had for 4 decades??       Yeah, well, I still think about them occasionally, but still haven’t cried over them!!       (And I know I could still name a large percentage of them too!     I loved those books!!     But as it turns out, I’m loving my clean open spaces even more!)

Then the drawer, in the middle.     slob, humor, clutter      In my other trailer, this was supposed to be my office drawer, since I didn’t have a desk.     Now that I have a desk, all this has a home to go to.      YAY for knowing where stuff belongs!

slob, humor, decluttered      Ah!     Looks good!        Ahem.        Oh, okay, except for those 3 things it looks good.       I’ll take care of them, but no need for another pic!

Then the shelves below.     slob, humor, some clutter       Not too bad!  Only 2 things!!      The printer paper goes in the desk.       Let’s see what that other thing is.

slob, humor, clutter     A box.      A completely empty box.       Since I’ve been using the antenna for 10 months now, I think it’s safe to say I’m keeping it!       Recycle away!            slob, humor, all decluttered!        Empty shelves never looked so good!

No dishes deposited here, and no more junk books either!!

Hungry, Hungry Hamper

(Did you notice I referenced the kid’s game, “Hungry, Hungry Hippo”?  I thought it was clever.  Was it just me??)

Here’s what the corner of my bathroom, by the tub looked like before:

20150331_072933

Now, I own a hamper.  And it does have dirty clothes in it.  So, why wasn’t it there, where I actually put my dirty clothes?? HMMM, let me think….

Okay, I can’t think of a good excuse.

Wait, I know!  I hadn’t read about creating systems that work in your home.

Everyone knows you’re supposed to get organized, right?  And everyone has probably read at LEAST 1 book on the subject.  (Lord knows, I have, 12 or twenty, maybe??)

BUT, if you try to do all these things, but your family doesn’t work that way, you will be doomed to fail.  Then, you’ll feel like a failure.  Instead of realizing it’s not you, it’s that system that failed.

Just like almost everything in life, you have to find what works for you.  Having my dirty clothes hamper in the bedroom, or by the laundry closet didn’t work for me.

I needed it right where I take off my clothes, in the bathroom.  Obviously, I had a well established habit, of throwing my dirty clothes down in the corner.  So….

20150403_111709after I cleaned them all up, and washed those,

1430146016677I put the hamper where the huge pile of clothes was.  Voila!  My dirty clothes are contained where they belong!  And, I don’t have to learn a new habit.  I just adjusted the system to what works for me!

YAY! I can do what any 2 year old can do!  Look, Mommy! I put my dirty clothes away myself!!

The Tale of Two Tiny Tables

In the theme of chipping away at the mountain, here is the tale of 2 tiny tables.

20150330_220752This is the tray table to the left of my recliner.  It’s not a true before, cuz I had already moved some books and mail.  (That troubling memory blip of forgetting to take “befores”!  Will I ever remember????)

There’s cookies, not the healthiest of breakfasts, but hey, I’m grown!  A library book, my black cherry Coke,(oh, you didn’t know Coke made a black cherry flavor?  I’m a cracker from Fl. all soft drinks are Coke, even Pepsi.  Sorry, Jan S.!) and my Bible, plus assorted hair bows, lip balms, and nose spray.

Then, I did a little decluttering, putting things where they belong, (Look, Nicole!! I did it!!) and voila!

20150331_143955  The Bible, and 1 book stay, because I’m actively reading them.  My drink stays because I’m too lazy to go to the kitchen every 2 minutes, when I’m thirsty!  Don’t judge!  And the candy??  Well, I’m quite sure it won’t stay very long!  It’s Dove Dark!

DO NOT LOOK AT THE KITCHEN BAR BEHIND THE TRAY TABLE!!  I’ve been given permission to just go slow, and do a few, (or even one, if that’s all I can do) things a day.  The kitchen bar, and counters, etc are a whole week’s worth of work, at my sloth pace.

Here’s is PP’s petite dining table, before.  Yay! A real before!  I can do it!!  (Actually, the books and mail were on the tray table, I had just shifted them before the before.  You caught me, Shirley.)

20150331_144500  After some decluttering, (and yes, Shirley, I did take all the stuff to its homes. Not just outta camera range.)

20150331_144932 Ta da!  All nice and clean.  Well, decluttered anyway.  I don’t think I’ll bother cleaning off the crayon.  Not till she’s got the “only color on paper” thing down pat!

Thus endeth the tale of two tiny tables.  I dideth terrific.
