Kim’s Kwilt Continued

Well, mercy me.   It feels like I’ve been working on Kim’s kwilt for years now!!     Tho, if I had been, it’d be done by now!!

So, today is May 2.   I have exactly 17 days to have it fini, and wrapped up.    It’s a race against the clock, folks!!    Can I do it??   Even if I finish only by the hair of my chinny chin chin, I’ll do it!!

Here are a coupla sneak peeks:

slob, humor, quilting

The 19 has borders on the square to make it large enough. The blue is sashing between squares.

slob, humor, quilting

The far side of the 19 square.

I laid out all the squares, and decided on the pattern.   Then, I started stitching the squares together, with the sashing in between.   I finished 2 whole rows!!    {No one needs to know that each row only has 5 T-shirts in it!!}   Then, I sashed the 2 rows together.

slob, humor, quilting

2 rows done!! OOps! Upside down! Sorry!

Looking good! If I do say so myself, who shouldn’t!!

Now, I’m exhausted!!!    After I get this written, it’s nap time!!!    (Isn’t it always???)

Kim’s Kwilt, Coming!

As I mentioned before, I’m working on DD2’s T-shirt kwilt for her graduation, as an Optometrist, in May.   So exciting!!    There’ll be a Doctor in the house!!

So, I’m working.   Hard.   On the days I’m not hardly working.   Kim’s kwilt is coming along nicely.

Here are the T-shirts:

bag of old T shirts

Apparently old T-shirts are not as yucky as old sheets. Who knew??

“Sew”, {See what I did there?} now I’m seriously working on it.   Only 1 month, minus 1 day to go!!!    On no!!!!!

I pre-washed all the sashing materials, which I will use for the borders, as well.

humor, slob, quilting

She wanted all the different colors of her schools.

The backing is still a mystery.   When I get paid again, in May, then I’ll go hunting for that, and the filling.    The front is the hard part!    Once it’s done, sandwiching it all together is almost a breeze!    (Almost, I say.   Remember the Bland Blankie going wonky???)

For those lazy among you who don’t wanna waste your time re-reading about that painful memory, here’s a visual:

misaligned quilt edges , humor

See how the edges no longer align??? AUGH!!

NOW I know that flannel stretches!   It’s 100% cotton, so how did I know???

Okay, I’m in the midst of ironing on fusible web, to stiffen the T-shirt, so they won’t ravel when I sew them together.

Then, some had to have double-sided webbing, because they were going to be appliques.

slob, humor, quilting

Turns out, iron “on”s also iron “off”. Who knew??

Yeah, so that happened!   Oops!    That’s why the directions say “Use a pressing cloth.”   Probably because someone else did that, and sued, so now they have to put warning labels, for the idiots distracted folks like me.   Now, I MUST use a pressing cloth, or I’ll iron these numbers onto something else!

After I did that, I was done for the day.    When I start making big boo-boos, quitting time!

Sayonara till Monday.    More memes to come!

meme monday

I’ve been collecting these memes from Facebook for a while.

Now, I just gotta share!!

And, it’s Monday, hence the name “Meme Monday.”     Don’t expect this every Monday!!!!      I’m not starting a series or anything, here.

M&M

What did I just spend a whole evening doing?   Well, glad you asked.   Separating the good from the bad M&Ms.

What???   No, no, I meant the green from the good!

“Bad” and “Good” M&Ms

No! I meant the green from the red!

There are NO bad M&Ms!!

Just green is bad for my next party theme- Valentine’s Day.

just green M&Ms

JUST the “Bad” green ones

I need red,

just red M&Ms

JUST the “Good” red ones

white, pink and purple.

Unfortunately for me, all that’s on clearance right now is the Christmas candy.   But hey!    If all I have is red for Valentine’s, then we’re gonna pretend red is all we needed!

And, the “bad” ones taste just as good!

cupful red M&Ms

Cupful of just red M&Ms

Putting them in a purple cup MAKES them purple, right???

(What do you mean where are the green ones??   How should I know??   I’m innocent, I swear!   They were just right there!   What do you mean why is my hand green???   Dang it!   They promised they wouldn’t melt in my hand!!)

Join the party here:

MY newest new place!

Finally!  After OVER a month!  Here are the pix of my newest new place!  Just the outside, though.

Part of my “Front” garden.

Purple Passion Plants!

Purple Flower

Or wandering Jew, as my SIL calls them.

And yes, that’s the official name. lol  According to me.  It is also the sole occupant of my “Side Garden.”

Those last 2 plants are the 2 I most wanted in my other garden, but never went to the actual trouble of getting any!!  Then, God gave them to me here in my newest home!!  God is so good, all the time!!  He cares about me, and my life, even tiny little details, like what plants I like!

Still working on inside!!  I had the living room, kitchen/dining room party ready for Christmas Eve, but you know what happened 2 days later… yeah, slobbery overran the place.  😦   (Don’t ya love how I blamed the slobbery, instead of myself????)

Anyhoo, back to the pix:

Front views:

Yeah, the recycling can doesn’t look the best there, does it??   sigh   Yet another sign of my laziness.

carport

The carport- duh! there’s Captain Obvious again!

Right side:

right side trailer central air unit

 Notice the central air unit!!

See that scraggedy bush?  That’s the right side of my “Front Garden”.   It’s a yellow rose bush, which can’t be proven by it now!   But I was excited to see it, because it was Granny’s favorite flower!

I didn’t take a pic of the butterfly sculpture over the carport, because it has already worn out it’s welcome, by just existing!!

Boy, am I cranky or what???

I didn’t take any back views, because who wants to see more moldy siding???   Oh, wait, there’s a hand in the back.  “Hi, there. Yes, you, in the multi striped shirt.  You want to see more moldy siding???   Ok, just scroll back up and re-look at those pix there!   Thanks!”

Inside pix to come at a later, undetermined date, when I have the rooms back to non-disaster status.   {Please don’t hold your breath.  Not responsible for any fainting you may incur.}

There you go- Home Sweet Home. Again!  Hopefully Forever this time!  [But not gonna say “Never  Moving Again!!  Because that is the surest way in the world to ensure that I’d be moving again shortly.  Not.Gonna.Happen.]

I MEAN IT!!

Publix Pilgrims

I know, I know.  Thanksgiving was a week ago, already.  But, clearance sales have me thinking about it again already!!

Publix is my favorite store!!   If you don’t have them where you live, I am so, so sorry.   They are only the best grocery store in the world!!!!  First of all, because they are a home town store that made good.  Second, they have EXCELLENT customer service!!  They even followed me around pushing my buggy one time, when I was on the electric scooter, and was buying more than the little basket could hold.   Third, when they have BOGOs, and there is a manufacturer’s coupon, AND they have a store coupon- MAGIC happens!   One time I got a whole cart of groceries, and they PAID me $10!!!   That high lasted a long time!!

Ok, back to my topic, Thanksgiving.  I bought a Pilgrim platter,

20151202_212600

On each side is a Pilgrim, 1 guy, and on the other side, the girl.  So cute!  And matching salt and pepper shakers:

20151202_212524

Uh oh!  She turned her head, looks like she’s mad!  Burnt turkey in the Pilgrim household tonight!

This year, they even came out with the kids’ set, “The Lilgrims”!!!  That is just too precious!!

20151202_212443

Look, the girl’s a redhead!  Reminds me of PP, when she was born!!

Okay, now you know what’s gonna be on our table next year!   If you live near a Publix, and don’t have these, run! don’t walk! to get your own!  The salt shaker sets are half off, and the platter was 66% off!!!!   Going fast!

Your table scape will thank you!

Sewing Sew Sew

What have I gotten myself into now??  I just finished the nieces baby quilt last, last, last Thursday (3 ago).  Now here I am starting ANOTHER quilt??  (For my Sister-in-law, Shirley- ya know, the one I promised Brother last January???)  Am I crazy??  (Well, that’s already well established, no need to answer!)

AND!!!!  I’m planning to do a Thanksgiving dress for PP!!!!!   I AM INSANE!!!

Just purchased the Thanksgiving material, (and Christmas too, if I MUST confess) for PP, on Veteran’s Day.

It was on sale!!  60% off the harvest, and 50% off Christmas!!  With a 40% off coupon!!!  I HAD to buy it!! Right then!!

(Even though I had to borrow the money, totally worth it!! to me, anyway!!)

I’m gonna be busier than “2 squirrels in a wool sock”!  (Thanks, Cindy D. for that saying!)

Shirley did come over and cut up all the squares, which I can’t do.  (Remember that pesky little wreck, back in February??

Boy, I do.  Every time I try to use my left arm!)

Here they are, in all their freshly cut glory:

Gorgeous colors!  Brother picked them out, and he’s color blind!  Kudos to him!

Here is the material for PP’s Thanksgiving dress.  I just love these turkeys!!  Who could resist such cuteness??

cartoon turkey material

And I’m going to!

And ta-da!  Behold the Christmas dress raw materials.  PP picked these out herself!!  What an eye!

Oops!  I forgot to take that pic, again!  Bad slogger, bad slogger!   Meantime, please enjoy this lovely

Pic of Jackie and JFK, in their Christmas outfits.   Off to take that pesky pic!   (Unless I forget again….)

Okay, so now I gotta chain myself to the machine again!  Hope I get let off for Thanksgiving dinner!  (Well, that will probably depend on how fast I get the turkey dress done!!)  If you don’t hear from me in about a week, please send food and water!!

Finally Fini

The amazing, long anticipated quilt:

finishing touch on quilt

Already rounded 3rd, almost home!

IS DONE!!!  (cue music: dun, dun, DUN)

scream of excitement

Can you hear the scream of excitement???

Final proof of fini!

YAY!!!  It’s only Thursday night, and I’m DONE!!   {Slaps the chess timer like a Grand Champion!}  Woo hoo for me!  On budget, (only because Sheryl bought everything and gave it to me, but whatever), and before deadline!  That part’s all ME!!

I must say: it’s the very first quilt I’ve ever made that I pieced both back, and front.  Very unusual, but twice as nice!

front of quilt

Remember the front?

back of quilt

And the back of quilt?

I will never forget them, myself!  Once I invest blood, sweat and tears into a quilt, it’s part of me for life!

[Well, not real blood, not this time.   I have sewed my finger with the machine needle before.   How ever did my fat finger fit under there, when I have a hard time fitting 2 layers of material, with batting?????]

manhandling the many material layers but, you can’t see my hands, cuz I’m holding the camera, then pushing the button!  A very delicate operation there!

Quickly Quietly Quilting

Update:  This is what the baby quilt looked like Monday evening at 9:38 pm.  (That’s when my bobbin ran out.  My arms were already yelling “Uncle”!!)  The top 4 rows are completed, and was attaching the fifth…

This is definitely a challenge: racing against the clock!!

baby quilt in progress

Starting to actually look like a quilt!

Uh, please overlook the mess in the background, as usual, I didn’t see it till now.  Don’t worry, fans, plenty of slobbery to go around!  The fount of post material is not in any danger of running dry!!

Just in case you have forgotten, or don’t know, this is the bobbin:

So, back to the sweatshop, uh, I mean the air conditioned factory of joy!!

Many Measly Months?

Has it really been almost 4 months that I’ve lived in my house, and haven’t shown y’all the inside yet???  Am I crazy??? Don’t answer that.

I know y’all have been sitting there on pins and needles, just waiting!  I’m so sorry to have been the cause of so much pain!!
