Bland Blankie

PP Jr is set to make her entrance soon.   And I don’t know who’s more excited, me or her parents!    (DD1 and SIL).     Just kiddin!    I know it’s me!!!    I get to be an Omie for the second time!    And PP will be a big sister!

So, ya know the drill.   Gotta make her a baby quilt.   (I was gonna title this post “PP Jr’s Quilt, but I’m on probation with my BBFFJ for alliteration violations!!)

Here’s the 3 fabrics for the front side.

3 gender neutral fabrics for baby quilt

3 “Gender Neutral” Fabrics

Not sure what the back will be yet.    The reason that it’s so much yellow, and green, and blue is, they wanted gender neutral.    Well, that went against my grain, but since they’re the parents, and control how much I can see the baby, I figured I better do what they said!    lol   So, this is the best I could make myself do for gender neutral.       See all the yellow?    and green?     and even blue in there too!!    Oh, so ya wanna know about the pink??    Well, gender neutral includes all the colors, amiright??

That’s why I called it a bland blankie, not enough pink for me!!

Here are some of the squares, cut out.

And yes, my arm and hand are both wore out now!

Here is a finished 9 patch.

Coming along quite nicely!!

Starting the actual quilting.   Why does it go wonky???

misaligned quilt edges , humor

See how the edges no longer align??? AUGH!!

And here is the quilt fini!!

Well, it’s done. Wonky edges and all. At least it’s made with love!

On to Kim’s!!

Eggy Eggs

So, PP wanted eggs for lunch.    PP always wants eggs for lunch, for dinner, for breakfast…. basically anytime it’s food time!    Eggy, eggy, eggs.

And, since I’m such an awesome Omie, I let her crack the eggs one time.    Then, if you have kids, you know what happened.    She has to crack the eggs EVERY time now!    What was I thinking???    So, here we were after church, making scrambled eggs.    And she “stirs” them with the purple spatula, which doesn’t work, of course, because she basically just chases the yolks around and around the bowl.

purple pancake turner

WE always called it a pancake turner. Why did I say spatula??

So, next thing I know, she’s “stirring” them with her hands!    Wha????    Oh well, we washed her hands before, and we’ll bless the food before we eat it, so just grin and bear it.

Sometimes it’s hard to choke down the shells, but she tries!    (I try to distract her long enough to get the huge pieces out, but….)

Then she “helps” me pour them into the frying pan.    And I use “helps” really, really loosely.    I put the pan on the back burner, and she stirs the eggs until she gets bored, 5.6 seconds, or so, then she moves her stool to the sink to wash her hands.    And treat them to a full 15 minute spa experience, if I’ll let her!

pretty purple frying pan

It’s so purdy!!

Then, this time, the alarm went off!

fire alarm

ANNOYING ALARM!!

I just ignored it, because it meant the eggs were ready!  But it scared PP, poor baby.   Happily, the eggs were done enough, and I turned off the stove, and the hideous clamoring ceased.   {Later, when I went to clean up, I saw the problem, in her enthusiasm, PP had slopped the eggs all over the burner.   Boy, if that wasn’t a joy to try to scrub up!}

Anyway, we said our blessing, and she inhaled the eggs.   And I thought I ate fast!    That girl loves her eggs!!    And she eats 3 every time!    So, of course I have to eat three, to keep up with her.   So, that’s half a dozen eggs, just for the two of us!!    And eggs are expensive, so it costs me…  calculating….  a whole dollar every meal!    Well, when you put it like that, it’s the cheapest meal ever!    50 cents each!

So, we were both full, we had a bonding experience, and the alarm was silent.    A successful end to our adventure!

Washed Windows

Pressured washed the trailer last Monday.    (Well, you KNOW it wasn’t exactly me who did it.   But, if I paid for it…. anyway, it got done!)

Remember the old, moldy sides??

Right Side. Notice the central air unit!!

It looked hideous!!   (On a side note, my yellow roses are blooming now!!    So gorgeous!)

home grown yellow roses

My yellow roses! I didn’t know I could grow those! lol (Only because they were already here, and I haven’t had time to kill them yet!

So, now here is the newly washed, so pretty side!!

Freshly washed face!

Nice, no??

Next up, paint!!    3 guesses what color?  only the first 2 don’t count!   Lol!    (Even if this is your first time here, I know you can guess too!)

Only the stripes, and the trim tho, for now!    Bwahahaha, {evil genius laugh}   Oh yeah, and the cow spots.   Can’t forget the mailbox!

So, tune in next time, same purple channel, same purple time!     I just realized, how ironic is it, that the word purple, is green????

Twin Twist

My friend Kristen C, yes, the cleanie!  made a huge announcement on her blog last Thurs.   She’s pregnant!!   I am so happy for her and Jerrod!   and wait for it…… they’re having twins!!

I knew those 2 crazy-in-love kids before they WERE even Kristen & Jerrod!!    When they announced their engagement, I was in shock!    What???    How did this happen??     They didn’t even hold hands in church.    He didn’t even put his arm around her!!    How was I supposed to know they were serious???

But they have so much in common, and are so cute together!!     After they got married, I started praying for them to have a baby.    When Kristen shared their infertility struggles, that gave me the information of how to pray specifically for them.

And now, their dreams of a baby are coming true, twice as nice!!    God answered our prayers in a huge way!!

Watching this journey thru her pregnancy, and then the babies growing is gonna be so much fun!!

Yikes!    I just thought of something- 2 more quilts needed!!     Relax!!!     I’ll be all done with my present queue by the end of May, and the twins aren’t due until end of August!     I got this covered!

(Not their quilt, just a previous one I made.)

Ya know what??    If I was really smart, I’d make the baby quilts, just as soon as they tell people which one the babies are, the pinks or the blues.    Oops, I mean the pinks or the boys.    Oops, I mean, the girls or the boys!    The twins are identical, so how fun is that gonna be to dress them just alike!!!     gets lost in a baby clothes buying daydream for days……….

Valuable Valentine

DD1 was my biggest and best Valentine ever! (9 lbs 12 oz- imagine if you can…Very valuable!!   Almost 10 lbs. of pure sugar!!)   Also known as Baby Strawberry Giant.

Crystal in yellow heart handmade dress

Her first heart outfit, that I made.

All natural birth with NO drugs!  (Until the numbing shot when the midwife was sewing me up!  That shot hurt worse than the sewing!  I refused the next one, and said “Just git ‘er dun!”)

I’m so thankful for my baby girls, both of them! They are my treasures.   DD1 is my Valentine baby, and DD2 is my Washington’s Birthday present to myself!

When they were little, I had the tradition of sewing them matching Valentine-Birthday outfits.   Poor DD2, she never got a Washington’s BD outfit!   (What would THAT look like?? A tree with an axe at the root??)   She always had to have hearts.   And, of course since their birthdays are only 8 days apart, they had to share birthday parties too.   And you can guess what the theme was- every year!!

Here’s one of DD2, also known as Newborn Strawberry Giant:

Here’s DD2! DD1 is holding her.

(This taking pix of pix with my phone is horrible!   Now, I not only need a REAL camera, but I need a scanner too!!!)

Why can’t I find a pic of both of them in an outfit I sewed???            (Ummmm, can’t be because I haven’t organized my pix yet!)

Oh wait, here’s one!    Not a great pic at all!!   But, they’re both in it, wearing their dresses for that year!    I’ll take it!

I love you DD1!   Happy Valentine’s Birthday!

And Happy Valentine’s Day, and Happy Birthday, DD2!   I love you!

M&M

What did I just spend a whole evening doing?   Well, glad you asked.   Separating the good from the bad M&Ms.

No! I meant the green from the red!

There are NO bad M&Ms!!

Just green is bad for my next party theme- Valentine’s Day.

I need red,

JUST the “Good” red ones

white, pink and purple.

Unfortunately for me, all that’s on clearance right now is the Christmas candy.   But hey!    If all I have is red for Valentine’s, then we’re gonna pretend red is all we needed!

And, the “bad” ones taste just as good!

cupful red M&Ms

Cupful of just red M&Ms

Putting them in a purple cup MAKES them purple, right???

(What do you mean where are the green ones??   How should I know??   I’m innocent, I swear!   They were just right there!   What do you mean why is my hand green???   Dang it!   They promised they wouldn’t melt in my hand!!)

Join the party here:

Sock Social

I decided to have a Christmas Sock Exchange, because for so many years, I’d tried to have a Christmas Cookie Exchange, and it just didn’t work.- EVER!   (Maybe because I don’t cook, and no one wanted to exchange Chips Ahoy??  Nah, that couldn’t have been it!)

Anyway, I planned it AFTER Christmas, because everyone is always so busy, party going before!  that I wanted to make sure people would be available to come to mine!   (And also, so I could get my Christmas socks on CLEARANCE!!!   Clever idea that worked!)

Christmas Socks on parade!! Treats!!

We held it Saturday, January 2, 2016.  It gave people an excuse to finally get out of bed!  LOL

12 friends and family came.   We had soooo much fun!   And I’m not the only one who said so!   Mama had declined the invite at first, but then when she found out her little sister (Hi Aunt Pat!) wanted to go, because HER daughter (Hi, Cousin KaLeena!) wanted to go, well then, Mama decided SHE wanted to go!  {Whew!  That sentence ran on so long, I lost my breath!}

Mama’s exact words: “I didn’t want to go because I didn’t think it’d be much fun.  But I was surprised.  I DID have fun.”   [Emphasis mine.   Well, DUH, everyone ALWAYS has fun at MY parties!!   It’s required!!]

The premise was to bring 2 pairs of socks; 1 full of treats to trade, 1 (empty) to donate.   Hey, I just realized, we should have filled the ones to donate too!  With small toiletries, etc.  I’ll add that to the next one!   Which I’ve already scheduled for after Valentine’s Day.

Everyone was so generous, we ended up with 35 pairs of socks to donate!!   Woo hoo!!

sister stuffing socks with treats

Sis stuffing socks. See that bag of candy??

For trading the socks, we couldn’t just trade, oh no!!   We played “Dirty Santa”  or Chinese Gift Exchange.   You draw numbers, and first person is also the last person.  You get to pick off the table, or steal someone else’s!   Quite a few steals went on!   Mama solved the stealing problem, by immediately putting on her socks!   No one had the nerve to take those!

Since it was an After Christmas party, the theme was all Christmas decor, and games.   The cookie decorating contest was a fave!

The winner was awarded a Huge Gingerbread Cookie Decorating Kit!

Snacks were hot cocoa, and surprise! Christmas cookies!

(Publix clearance sales were my best friend!!)

One treat from the socks, got fresh with her “Sugar Daddy.”

Silliness reigned supreme!

Party here!

Toasty Toes

I’m happy to report- I can feel my toes again!  YAY!!   Last night, I was sure they were frostbitten, to be forever lost.  Why??  I was cold!  lol  I didn’t buy a space heater when I had money, so now I was gonna die, by way of punishment for mismanagement of funds.

Tonight, however, my brain had thawed out some from today’s sunshine, and I remembered- I have central air! Which means, central heat!!   YAY!!

thermostat

Blessed warmth!!

So, I flipped the switch, and oh sweet mercy- hot air came out!!

Old people problems- I didn’t have heat in the olden days (a month ago, in the other house), therefore I forgot I have it now.  Duh-oh!!

Mighty Mite

PP (my 2 year old grand daughter) is a Mighty Mite!  Last week, she saw all the “pwesents” in her room, and kept bringing them to the tree, as many as she could load in her arms, at once!   “Heaby”, she’d say.

Such a good helper!   Then, Christmas morning, after we gathered up all the trash, which she helped with, she carried 2 bags of trash out!!  Not at once, but it wasn’t for lack of trying!!  That really was too “heaby”, even for her super strength!!

20151225_131741

And there it sits to this day, (Saturday 26th).  Let’s hope since Monday is trash day, that’ll be gone by then!!  {Hope springs eternal!}

I love that baby!!

pink new born baby

Sweetest thing on earth!

Unfortunately, not the real PP.  DD1 has a “No web exposure” rule.  And after hearing some scary stories, I abide by it.  Even though I’d LOVE to show her to y’all!!   She is really is the prettiest baby on earth!!   Not that I’m prejudiced at all!!

She will always be first in my heart, since she’s the first grand.  That doesn’t mean I won’t love PP Jr just as much when s/he gets here in April!!

So, Sew Sew

So, you know my old machine, sewing that is.  {I’m hearing the “Beverly Hills Hillbillys ” theme music right there.}

20150525_163333

Not changed at all

And, it was on top of an old brown sewing machine table, that my Sis found on the side of the road.  And I was so happy that she thought of me, and got it!   Because formerly, I was sewing on the dining room table.

sewing on dining room table

Me sewing industriously

And when that went away, I was seriously hurting for a sewing table!   Sis to the rescue!!    Thanks, Michelle!!

Anyway, when I moved here to this newest “new” place, there was a white table, that looked like a sewing table, but I didn’t pay it any mind.   But then Mama got curious, and opened.   What to her wondering eyes should appear, but another sewing machine!!   I couldn’t believe it!   Around every corner, it seems, I find more stuff the former owner left.    I am BLESSED!!

(The furniture, all the Christmas stuff, a TENS unit {not sure if I’m spelling that right, too lazy to check it.}, clothes, canning jars, and now this!!)

c pp 319

And the chair was here too.

So, sew sew!   (like “Mush, mush!” to the huskies!!)

I feel like the lady paid me to buy this place, almost!!
