Quazy Quilt Queue

Here it is the end of July, and still haven’t finished Kim’s Kwilt.   (When I first started this post.)            And the final deadline was May 20!        Majorly disappointed with myself.      But, I’ve been so busy with the girls, nannying, and full time taxi-ing for DD1, that I have felt like a chicken with its head cut off. Sorry Carmen!

Now she has a car again, {DD1, not Carmen!} and steady day care, so maybe I can git ‘er done before Winter!

Update:   I finished the infamous kwilt, on Saturday, Oct 22, 2016!!

I’m almost having a headache from that lattice pattern spinning!

The back, above.                                                                                     The front, below.

It was already folded in half, cuz I wanted ya to see my face!

And all the angels sang: “Hallelujah!!”

And all the readers screamed “YES!  Finally we can quit hearing her whine about that pesky kwilt!!”

And SF mailed it that next Monday.

And she (DD2) liked it!  She really liked it!     She said, and I quote,      “Thanks, it’s awesome.”

Okay, now that is off my mind!!      I can go on to the rest of my quazy quilt queue.      And it’s a long one!!

  • Shirley’s.    My brother commissioned this one when they were dating.     Their first anniversary was back in August.     This is my progress so far.

  Getting there!!     So close!!

  • PP’s Panda quilt.     DD1 commissioned this one in 2014.      Ahem   (Can’t find the pieces.     EEK!!)
  • The Campbell twins.      They’re only 5 months old, and I have all the squares cut out already, so hey, doing really well on this one!

slob, humor, quilt squares

Oops!  No I don’t have all the squares cut out.  I have 3/4ths of the squares cut out!

slob, humor, quilt fabric

This fabric has me flummoxed!!      I want each square to be 1 flower, (or “buttehfy”, as PP called them), but how do I do that without the squares going wonky??      I surely AM NOT gonna cut each one individually by hand!

So, I’ll just be as careful as I can…….

  • A bigger quilt for PPJr.      Her wonky quilt is WAY too little for her already, and she’s only 8 1/2 months old!!     (Haven’t even decided on the fabrics yet.    Yeah.)
  • Aulani’s.       She was born about 12 weeks ago, and I’ve already done this much.

slob, humor, baby quilt

Woo hoo!        On a roll here!

Then, I wanna do one for ..      STOP!!          What?   Why??         Until you get all those done, I’m officially declaring a moratorium on saying you’ll make more!            You can’t do that!        I think I can, cuz I just did!

NO MORE QUILTS

Well then, yes ma’am!        I’ll get back with ya on my next recipients, soon as I’m done with these.         So, mid 2027, would you say??          That’s kinda mean.         Is it mean if it’s true??      Well, it has been true so far…..

Kim’s Kwilt Komplished

IT’S DONE!!!!!

YES I KNOW o sorry, yes I know I was shouting, but it’s done!!!!!

First there was Kim’s kwilt    Then Kim’s Kwilt Coming, then Kim’s Kwilt Continued.

And now finally:  Kim’s Kwilt is Komplished!!

(I need to show you her pattern that she handed me 9 l-o-n-g years ago.)

slob, humor, quilt plan

All drawn up officially and everything!

After her college graduation passed, with no evidence of a quilt, I think she resigned herself to the fact that she’d never see it in her lifetime.  And the only way she’d ever get ANY use outta it, is if her grand kids hurriedly stitched it together for her burial shroud.   {These may or may not have been her actual thoughts.}

So we finally have arrived at the grand day!!   Her graduation as a Doctor day!!   (May 20)

I’m thinking of handing her the quilt, as she walks off stage, instead of the traditional bouquet of flowers.   Whaddya think???

Maybe not.        Especially since it was still in pieces on that glorious day.

Therefore: I had to default to the flowers.

Back to the kwilt:

Blood, sweat, and tears have gone into the making of this historic quilt.   It’s the only one of it’s kind, (made by me), and will remain the ONLY one ever made by me!    Anybody else asks for a T-shirt quilt, this is gonna be their answer.

That’s my look too!!

Same look, different task

Have I made myself clear??   I think so.

Sashing the final 2 rows together.

For the back, even more blood, sweat, and tears:

Do ya see the problem here?? I forgot to measure twice first!!

But, there were moments of bliss.

This is the finest example of a perfectly matched seam in existence today. Look closely folks, this might be the last one you ever see!!

Here it is Sept 26th, and I just now finished ironing on the letters for her schools.   Sad, I know.   But remember ALL the months of babysitting I did between May 20, and now??

Okay, on to the really good stuff!!   Drum roll please….

Ta-Da!!   Here it is in all it’s glory!!

May I present, Kim’s Kwilt Komplished!!!

Now the back:

slob, humor, kwilt done!!

Finally! Kwilt done-done!

All pressed, folded and ready to ship!

I put much love into every stitch, Kim.   I pray it keeps you warm for many years, and brings you many good memories of me, and how much I love you.

(Yes, sadly it’s taken me till Oct. 21st to finally get it all done, but, hey!    At least it’s still 2016!!   (Only 4 years, 6 months, and 1 day late!       But eh, who’s counting??)

Bland Blankie

PP Jr is set to make her entrance soon.   And I don’t know who’s more excited, me or her parents!    (DD1 and SIL).     Just kiddin!    I know it’s me!!!    I get to be an Omie for the second time!    And PP will be a big sister!

So, ya know the drill.   Gotta make her a baby quilt.   (I was gonna title this post “PP Jr’s Quilt, but I’m on probation with my BBFFJ for alliteration violations!!)

Here’s the 3 fabrics for the front side.

3 gender neutral fabrics for baby quilt

3 “Gender Neutral” Fabrics

Not sure what the back will be yet.    The reason that it’s so much yellow, and green, and blue is, they wanted gender neutral.    Well, that went against my grain, but since they’re the parents, and control how much I can see the baby, I figured I better do what they said!    lol   So, this is the best I could make myself do for gender neutral.       See all the yellow?    and green?     and even blue in there too!!    Oh, so ya wanna know about the pink??    Well, gender neutral includes all the colors, amiright??

That’s why I called it a bland blankie, not enough pink for me!!

Here are some of the squares, cut out.

And yes, my arm and hand are both wore out now!

Here is a finished 9 patch.

Coming along quite nicely!!

Starting the actual quilting.   Why does it go wonky???

misaligned quilt edges , humor

See how the edges no longer align??? AUGH!!

And here is the quilt fini!!

finished baby quilt, wonky edges, made with love

Well, it’s done. Wonky edges and all. At least it’s made with love!

On to Kim’s!!
