swish and swipe

I read it on Nony’s blog, ASlobComesClean, about the “Swish & Swipe”.  (And of course, I couldn’t find the post I am referring to….)  I found it!!  Ya know, cuz she has a search feature, and all!!  Duh!

I believe she said it came from the Fly Lady. I had never read that blog, but it was scary, just from what I’d heard.  Fully dressed to makeup, and shoes??  First thing in the morning???  Ain’t happ’nin.

Thought, that’s just too much trouble.

Then I find myself taking 30 min and a jack hammer to chip away at all the crud.

(Have you figured out yet that we’re talking toilet today??)

Finally I decided maybe there is something to the “Swish and Swipe”.  And I started swishing the brush around, every day(ish), and swiping the counters, every day(ish).  And guess what??  The bathroom stayed clean(ish)!!!

Who knew?

Experts know whereof they speak.

Why didn’t I listen sooner?

Anyhoo, now my toilet is usable by guests on any given day.  (Now that PP is potty training, she’s getting in on the action too!  It’s so cute to see her cleaning the toilet!!  And soon, I won’t have to do it anymore!!!!)

Amazing!!

Bed Bugs??

Haha, I knew it! Take that Insect Lady!!

It’s finally official- making your bed first thing is BAD!!  I always told Mama that, but she wouldn’t believe it.  Now, it’s SCIENCE!!

Lisa From Retro Housewife tells us why.

“Something as simple as leaving a bed unmade during the day can remove moisture from the sheets and mattress so the mites will dehydrate and eventually die,” said Researcher Dr Stephen Pretlove

DUST MITES!!

Yucko!  {shudder}  Scary!!

“Dust mites are too small to be seen with the naked eye. They are arthropods like spiders. And they may be the cause of your allergy symptoms. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America says that about 20 million Americans have dust mite allergy.”

I do, I got tested.  (We know, Sheldon! We know!)  So wonder how much of those nightime sneezes, and congestions, are due to those nasty little bugs?

WAIT!! Did they say spiders???? No wonder I feel like things are crawling all over me all the time!  They are!!  I just can’t see them!  It’s not all in my head!  I’m NOT crazy!!  (Well, not for that reason anyway.)   😉

EEWWWWW!!

Here’s what my bed looks like in the morning.

used tissues on bed

And yes, that’s toilet paper, not tissues.
Sorry, not sorry.

Welcome to my wonderful world of sneezing and sn_t.   I didn’t spell out the word, just in case Mama sees this.  She hates for me to be crass.

So, sweet dreams!  Don’t let the bed bugs bite!

First Day

I’ve been reading Nony, from A Slob Comes Clean, for about a month now. She has motivated me to get my butt in gear. Sunday night, Monday morning!, I bought her 2 e-book set. Drowning in Clutter, Drain the Ocean, and 28 Days to Hope in Your Home. Of course, being me, I read them immediately.  Then, I got up and emptied the dw.  DH was so excited when he opened it Mon. morning and saw it empty.  Then I got really CRAY-CRAY, and while he took the grand baby, Pudding Pop, for her morning walk, I swept and mopped the living room. My back hurt, and I was huffing, and puffing. Yes, and sweating too.

But, it only took me approximately 10 minutes, start to finish, including moving the toys. Then I sat down, and basked in the glow of a job well down. And basked all day! And posted about it copiously on FB. and private messaged everyone who didn’t comment on my post. I’m so needy for approval. Then I decided to start this blog, to look back on my accomplishments, and brag on myself!

Actually, I’ve been working on cleaning up for longer than just 1 day.  After I got out of Physical Therapy Rehab, June 5, I started getting the itch to have a house that was nice. Not pristine, magazine level, no one can touch anything, just nice.  So, I began going thru boxes, and getting rid of stuff. It felt good to see those 3 boxes of donations, 1 box for consignment, and 13 gallons of trash leave out the door!  We straightened up the living room, and began having people over, well, family.  Then I even had the nerve to have Pudding Pop’s first birthday party here! Everything looked really good.

I have sewn 1 curtain for the living room, now I need to do 1 more. And wait for DH to put up the rods.

If I continue to help with the dishes, and sweep and mop every day, he’ll soon be putty in my hands!
