Quilting Quietly

Disclaimer: This is NOT a sewing tutorial.  It’s a photo essay to document my quilting project, for my former sister-in-law.  Hi, Sheryl!  See, I really am working on it!!  (The baby shower is in 7 days, and the quilt has to be done, and WRAPPED by 2 pm.  I totally can do this!  Oh, I did mention this is for my niece’s baby, right?  Oh, you figured it out by it being my former sister-in-law’s daughter’s baby shower?  Oh, okay then.  I’ll just take off my Captain Obvious name tag now.)  The reason I do not claim it as a tutorial is, I don’t feel qualified as an expert.  But, I will be more than happy to show you everything I know.  Just don’t be upset when you get what you paid for!!

I haven’t been able to sew since my wreck in Feb., due to my injuries.  Graciously, Sheryl agreed to cut out the squares, if I’d sew them together.  WE make a great team!

Here goes the pictorial proof of project in process:

already cut quilt squares

Sheryl did all this prep work.

big little squares

Little for the front, big for the back.

cleaning sewing machine

Important step: Clean the machine!

laying out quilt pattern

Laying out the pattern.

Sheryl requested the diagonal patterns.   I can’t wait to finish it!  It’s made of flannel, so in addition to being so pretty, it’s sooo soft for the baby!

making bobbin

pitiful scissors

Pitiful scissors, but can’t find my sewing shears. Why doesn’t that surprise anybody??

After sewing 2 squares together, Guess what??

Can you spare a square?
(Sorry, just HAD to!!)

sewing boo boo

This is what a sewing boo boo looks like. DO NOT ATTEMPT AT HOME.

1 strip done

1 strip, and done. NOT!!
I wish it was a micro quilt!
Not really, JK.

Now that I’ve made my pictorial proof, I need to get back home and sew up a storm!  Baby showers wait for no (wo)man!!

Strawberry City

A girl was born in Strawberry City,

strawberry

long long long long long (5 decades worth of longs) ago but not so far away.

She was so fair of face, that the Strawberry Fairy decided to  kiss her neck, leaving a strawberry mark.

The Strawberry Girl grew, grew, and  grew until she was as tall as a pine tree.

Unfortunately, the more she grew, the clumsier she became. Everywhere she turned, she made messes, and clutter followed her.

Her Normal size Mama tried to teach her grace, and cleaning skills.  Poor Strawberry Girl just couldn’t seem help it.

Messes, and clutter began to overflow the house, then the town.

All the Housewives banded together, and petitioned for her to go away.

Sadly, Strawberry Girl left for a larger city, farther way.

It was heart breaking leaving family, friends, and her home.

Finally, she reached the larger city, and met new friends.  The first 4 people she ran into were Normal size Jack , Normal size Melody, Tiny Noel, and Tiny Roe.

Normal size Jack, and Normal size Melody at the beach. Can you see Tiny Noel, and Tiny Roe?

Strawberry Girl was thrilled to make friends who accepted her, clumsiness, messes, and all.  But, one thing was missing.

In despair, she asked God where all the other giants were.

One day, at a party, her 4 friends ran up to Strawberry Girl, and excitedly told her to “Close your eyes!  We have a surprise for you!”

Eyes clenched, feeling the ground shaking, Strawberry Girl was full of fear.  Fear of the unknown.  What was happening???

“Open your eyes!” her friends chorused.  Wonderingly, she did.  And what did her eyes behold??

To be continued….

Under Cover, Under Counter

This looks bad, I know.

This is another one of those cases where you just need to be grateful we don’t have smell-o-vision.

Yeah, it kinda… um, how can I put this delicately… stinks.  Like mildew.

Now, I wasn’t aware that the sink leaked.  Until the day when I needed a cleaning wipe.  Yeah, remember that 1 day when I actually cleaned the sink???

I reached under there, and that whole towel was wet.  Nasty surprise!  But did I do anything about it?  Like remove it?  Throw it away?? C’mon, you know me better than that by now!!  (For those of you who are new, I’m lazy, and a slob– SHOCKER- right?  And a big time procrastinator.  That’s all, back to your regularly scheduled post.)

Sadly, that wet towel is still there, stinking, to this day. sniff, sniff  (It’s my allergies, I’m not crying over spilled milk, or whatever the heck that liquid is.  Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.)

Well, I found out it was only water, (YAY) and not from the sink (double yay!).  Did you see the plastic jugs to the left of the pipe?  Turns out there were 3 of ’em full of water, for our emergency stash.  Until suddenly, no water at all!  Not sure what happened, but there’s holes in them now.  At least now I won’t be afraid to take up the towel, YAY!  Maybe I’ll even do it now!  {Here’s hoping!}

You’ll be happy to know, the under counter was cleaned by the time I moved out, on June 30, 2015.  Yay, me!  (Or whomever cleaned it, who may or may not have been me.  Hint: It wasn’t me.)

(I’m so frustrated with myself right now.  I took a picture of the cleaned space.  But now I can’t find it.  (Typical slob prob.  Maybe I need to… organize (GASP!) the way I do my pix?)
