Market Meal

The last Monday in March, I took my neighbor, Jeanette, to a Seniors only produce market.   We only had to pay $5, and got a LOT of stuff!

A quart of strawberries, which I skipped, 2 oranges, box of mushrooms, 3 onions, 2 zucchini, 2 yellow squash, 1 bundle organic asparagus, {Ooooohh! Fancy!} 5 # potatoes, 2 ripe, very ripe, avocados, a bunch, bundle? stem? of long leaf lettuce.   I’m not sure what kind it is, just what it isn’t.    It’s not iceberg, butter, or Bibb, because they’re all round heads.   It doesn’t matter, really.   It’s long, green, and leafy!    And last, but not least, a strawberry pie, which I was gonna skip too.   But Jeanette grabbed one and put it in my bag.

“You paid for this, get all you paid for!”   Now, she has 2 pies!

Wow, that was a long prologue!

Jeanette said, “Those mushrooms are almost gone.   If you don’t cook them today, you’ll have to throw them away.”    She probably felt like she was wasting her breath, knowing full well, I don’t do the “C” word!

But, to my shock, that’s exactly what I did, when I got home!    I didn’t want to have to throw away the mushrooms, so I got busy.

First I sliced up the onion.

sliced onion, humor

Why am I crying??

Then, I fried sauteed them with the pre-cut mushrooms.     {And of COURSE the alarm went off!}

I steamed the asparagus in the microwave.

See, I really DO know how to use a kitchen appliance!

Added a piece of ham left over from Easter at my Mama’s, and Voila!

A yummy market meal!

humor, onion skins, asparagus stems

Scraps and skin, proving I cooked!

Rewarding Recycling

So proud of myself today!  (Today not necessarily meaning the day you are reading this.  I sometimes outline my posts, and let them simmer.  Sometimes for months on end!)   My recycling was full, and my garbage was empty!!  YAY me!

full recycling bin

“r”ots of recycling!

empty garbage can

Nothing to see here!!

I had challenged myself to see how little trash I could have, while recycling everything I could conceivably put in that blue can.  I love how well I did on this challenge.  It took some work, and creative thinking as to how that bit of string could possibly be a recycled item, (I decided it was recycling because it was made of mineral, not animal or vegetable.  That is HOW you decide, right?  Ask animal, mineral or vegetable??)

Of course, I still hadn’t taken the trash out of all the cans in the house yet, but….

YAY me!!

Celebrate!

I’m nominating myself for a Best Recycler Award!!

Recycling Recognition

(Wonder if that comes with any sort of monetary prize??  WEll, since I made it up just now, and I’m broke, I highly doubt it.  Boo hiss!!!)

RULES:

* Thank the giver and link their blog to your post.
* Answer the 10 questions given to you.

* Pass the award on to 7 other bloggers of their choice and let them know that they have been nominated.

* Include the logo of the award in a post or on your blog.

Here they are:

1. On the bad days, how do you cheer yourself up?

A- Singing hymns, and Scripture songs always helps.  Also, talking to my brother!

2. Which is your favourite food?
A- It used to be bread, any kind.  Now that I’m gluten free, I’m really beginning to enjoy fresh vegetables more.

3. How do you let go?
A- Read a novel, or color a picture.

4. How much do you value ‘silence’?
A- So, so much!  My house is finally quiet after many years, and I just sit, soaking it in.

5. Will you hurt someone intentionally or lie to make them feel better?
A-  No, I don’t intentionally hurt people.  Sometimes I do, because I often speak before I think.  Trying to work on that bad habit.

6. Do you have faith in humanity? why or why not?
A- No, not really.  I know humanity is fallen, from Adam and Eve sinning.  Our only hope is through Jesus Christ, and His atoning blood.

7. One thing you really wish could come true?
A- To have an air conditioned vehicle again!  I live in Florida, and I melt every time I have to drive.

8. If you had to sum up your life in 10 or less words, what would they be?
A- A sinner saved by grace.  Love my girls, and family.

9. How do you express anger?
A- Too often, by sleeping.

10. What is the one thing that will turn you completely off about a person?
A- Bad grammar.  When I was in 8th grade, I red lined all my boyfriend’s love letters, and sent them back to him for correction.  What a word snob!
